Hello, I am building a site that has a gallery of artwork. What I want to do is to click on a thumnail and both change a larger image to the side and to change a small text box that is below desctibing the image. I have worked out the first part and you can see my progress here: www.timelessurns.com/handmade.html
Then what would be really great is to have a link in the new picture or text that opens a full screen version of the picture. Am I dreaming or what. Any help would be very much appriciated. Thanks, Jason This post has been edited by azwli: Sep 14 2006, 12:04 PM |

I recommend that you link to a new page that has the full-sized photo and caption/description. Each image would have its own page, but you can generate them automatically, and there are prewritten image-gallery programs that can be used.

Thank you for the reply,
Boy that would certainly be the easier solution,. Unfortunatly, the client really wants to see the caption on the same page as the thumnails and changing larger image. A click to see a full screen version would only be for people who are particularly interested in a specific piece. I can solve the problem of the caption by adding a caption to the JPG image. OK, only one image to change with a click of a thumbnail. But, then how do I make an elegant link to the full screen version? It seems like it should be possible. Jason |

It seems to me that each page could have several thumbnail images, a single large image, and a caption for the large image. The thumbnail images can be linked to the other pages, and the thumbnail images themselves can be cached by the browser.
The large images can be linked to huge versions for those who are especially interested. Or the large images can be linked to pages that display the huge versions with captions. Or the large images can be linked to pages the provide links to several sizes: huge, very huge, extremely huge, etc. |

so, what I think I hear you saying is that it is not possible to do exactly what I am hoping to do with a javascript type onclick event. am I correct?

It may be possible, but I recommend an approach that doesn't rely on JavaScript. JavaScript may be disabled/unavailable in the visitor's browser.
