Hello

this topic was posted a few years back, i know there must be more options now so I will ask,

I am creating a website using Xara Web Designer MX software, which has prebuilt "Webpage templates" in which you can design your website around by changing graphics/text and adding some "widgets" that allow you to run scripts and things.

The website I am creating needs to allow users to the site to upload pics & sm video clips to the site for viewing by other members.
1. give the users the ability to upload 10 images at a time to the site with the option to add a quick comment
2. take those files and thumbnail them to be click-able to their full size
3. not end up with some bot filling the page with porn or other undesirables!

What is the best method to accomplish the above?

Is there some software that some one can recommend or can this be done by coding of some type (Simple coding) with the website?

Should i link directly to some online place like Photobucket.com or something?

Any feedback on these questions would be great.

That must be handled by a script on the server. That is, Perl, PHP, whatever, a real programming language. The HTML bit that you can do in Xara is just a matter of linking the form to this script.

You can find ready made scripts at different script repositories, for example here (php).

Be careful though and try to find reviews and opinions about the script since scripts like this can be a big security risk.

A server script can put a limit on the number and sizes of uploaded files, but it's impossible to detect what kind of images that are uploaded. I'd suggest limiting access only to "members" (using passwords) combined with human moderating.

Don't be too sure about that. Google is working on an image recognizing algorithm that isn't too pesky. I don't think they give the public access to it though, apart from through their own interfaces. Theoretically I'm sure it's capable of recognizing for instance a boob or a penis. tongue.gif

I recall some software research that tried to detect pink skin color for the same purpose. rolleyes.gif
