I don't see anything like that at http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-CSS2/visudet.html#propdef-width .

There are workarounds though, like giving a parent container 200px padding.

MSIE supports dynamic properties in style sheets, but IMO ordinary javascript is better since it's both W3C-compliant and supported by other browsers.
