how to set auto scrolling vertically but not horizontally? Options

hello,

is there a way to set scrolling so that a certain area can be scrolled vertically but not horizontally?

edit: the problem is at the moment the area is set to:

#containertext

{
float: right;
overflow: auto;
padding: 20px;
width: 720px;
height: 310px;
line-height: 120%;
}

and in firefox it is appearing correctly, but in ie when there is a vertical overflow, it automatically adds a horizontal one too.
