the annoying padding & spacing..., Really stuck on this! Options

Ive searched for the correct way to make cellpadding and cellspacing work set to "0px" but i cant find how to do it!

I have tried border-spacing and border-collapse but they dont work.

And also when i attempt to center a table with css using the margin widths as "auto" it doesnt work!

I was wondering what the corrects ways to do these table edits with css and wether there is a useful site to refer to!

BTW i am using external style sheets.

ok so i have solved the problem of the cellpadding and spacing i hope. just need you confirmation on it working!

But i tried margin-left and margin-right as "0px" and it didnt work, as "auto" did the same!

and lastly, how can i accomplish a fixed width site as in iexplorer there is a scrollbar making the right hand margin have a small white gap but in firefox there is no scrollbar so there is a very noticable gap on the right hand side! i would like to make the whole thing centered with css but i cant do it!
