Interesting. I'm currently considering switching from Chrome back to Opera (I haven't used Opera since they switched from their own rendering engine to the same one Chrome uses). The driver is a browser plugin that I use to filter Facebook, to get rid of most of the noise on Facebook to keep it bearable.

I've been trying Brave - a little. Also chromium based. Supposed to have the best privacy protection. It seem to filter ads by default, something I don't necessarily want. But I haven't looked into the settings yet. There was a time when I thought it was fun to customize software and dig into the settings. Not so much anymore. Especially not open source software that often changes drastically with each release.

What would the practical consequences be if Chrome was a separate company? I suspect that Firefox has been supported by Google as an alibi, to prevent Google from being labelled a browser monopoly. But if Chrome would become another "independent" browser company - just like Mozilla - maybe there would no longer be any need for Google to keep Mozilla/Firefox as an alibi, and it would disappear. Or would Firefox' unique browser engine be enough to keep it alive?

Is that a Manifest v2 extension (that Chrome will stop supporting)? Haven't found any information yet on how the various Chromium-based browsers will handle that.
