Hi all,

I have a very simple genealogy website where I want to track the number of hits I'm getting. I don't need to know where these people are from, their monitor resolution, their shoe size...you know where this is going. The only provision is, I want to be able to open my site several times per month and not have the counter register my clicks or refreshes. There are a billion ways to do this but I want the easiest one I can find, preferably without having to create an account.

The traditional counters from the early 2000s are totally obsolete because they count my activity. I don't want to be counted. Any ideas? Many thanks...

I don't really know these days. How is the site hosted? Do you have access to server logs?

It sounds like you look for unique visits. Stats programs, in best case, lets you define what a unique visit is. Say the same IP once a week or once a month, whatever you prefer. It isn't very useful if I reload a page 10 times and that is counted as 10 visits.

But it also sounds like you want a visible counter on the page, like in the good old days. Is that right?

Hi Pandy,

Thanks for chiming in smile.gif. Since I posted this question, I came across a freebie called StatCounter. It has a way of excluding me from the count by issuing a blocking cookie on my account. It works very well. So, I'm good to go. I would have got around to posting this.

Thanks again for the help. Stay well...

- Lee
