When I installed an app I discovered I had another newly installed app that I have NOT downloaded. Youtube Music. And it can't be uninstalled, there is no such option. ninja.gif

So I guess Google now forces apps for their different services on Android users. Anyone else got this without installing it yourselves?

Does it say it's newly installed, or didn't you discover it until now? Could it be that some other app has downloaded it, some apparently have such permissions. Or have you installed any newer Android (or vendor bloat) versions around the same time as Youtube Music?

Both. It came up among new apps when I looked for the one I did install. It isn't that long since I last installed something, so it probably happened sometime the last few weeks.

One of my free Android apps suddenly started displaying ads, even though I've never given it permission to access the web. How is that possible, exactly? Did it download all the ad content with the update?

That does not appear to be the case, now I found in App Settings that its data usage increases every time it's started. According to Glasswire, it also uploads around 50-100KB everytime it's used. Perhaps best to uninstall.

Lesson for the future: never update apps for no reason. ninja.gif

Do you know any simple, free notes app, without ads and snooping?

Seems most of them have too many features, insist on "cloud backup" and either cost money or contain ads.

I've used ColorNote as long as I've used a cell phone. Never really tried anything else since I'm pleased with it. Beginner's luck, I guess. Can't be sure about snooping of course, but I haven't noticed any and no ads.

You can choose between ordinary notes and lists. The lists are especially handy for things like shopping lists and todo lists, since you can tick items off and have the program automatically sort them so unticked items are at top. I have a standing list of thing I use to buy at the grocery stores. When I notice I'm running out of something I just click it in the list and it ends up at top. So when I'm off shopping I already have an (almost) ready list. Same if you think of something you should get next time you can muster strength enough to go to IKEA or some other horrible place. Add it to the IKEA list and you won't forget it. It's very handy if you, like me, tend to forget the small things. tongue.gif

The colours are helpful too. One colour for shopping, one for Sue-Ellen related stuff and so on. laugh.gif

By coincidence I actually installed ColorNote the other day. Can you make the text smaller in the list of notes (as opposed to inside each note)?

But I'm suspicious: according to my Glasswire app, it uploaded 70KB twice for some reason last night; and now that I just opened ColorNote briefly, it sent and received 12-13KB right away. Like many other apps it seems to have full network access, which is impossible to disable in the phone's permissions (at least in my Andoid version).

List item height, I think. Not sure if it actually makes the text smaller, but it has the same effect. More items visible without scrolling.

It can make backups. Maybe that's what it did. I don't have that option checked, but when I got a new phone all my lists were there anyway. Could have been checked on the old phone. Or maybe they were saved through the phone backup. Never figured out how that works, what it backs up and not.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for.

Yes, seems it had made auto backups four times since I got it. Pretty sure I unchecked that option from the start, but maybe I didn't. Now I deleted all four backup instances, will see if any more are added after this (not that the UI in any program means anything, when it can do whatever it wants silently in the background).
