I wrote my website while in an HTML class more than five years ago, and remember almost nothing about how it was built. It worked fine for years, but recently a couple of links that used to go to pages of pictures now just generate an error message that says "Google+ is no longer available for consumer (personal) and brand accounts".

The HTML code for one of these links starts "<a href="https://plus.google.com/photos/106705067901862903411/albums/5715781394293236545"
and the other two problem links are similar, with different numbers.

Any suggestions as to how I can find my pictures again, and get rid of the google reference?

The web page in question is RaphaelConsulting.com/travels.html -- three of the four links from within that page that should go to pages of pictures produce this error.

All ideas or suggestions would be welcome!

Can you access your google account in any way, e.g. can you login to it with a browser and can you see your images there? If so, download them and upload them to your server and link to them there.

Or, if you have copies on your computer already, just upload them to your server amd change the links.

Thanks, pandy -- but I'm not aware that I have a "google account" other than gmail. I certainly don't know anything about "plus.google.com". How would I log into it to look for those images? I probably have the images somewhere on my computer, but I'd sure like to see how they were laid out previously on those web screens (that seem to have turned into 21-digit numbers).

But you link to your images on Google+. How can you not be aware of that you have it?

I think all Google services are connected, so you should be able to login with your gmail address and pw. I don't know what's left after they shut Google+ down for private users since I never used it.

All Google stuff is so mixed up. I guess it's possible photos you've stored with some other Google service got the public address plus.google.com... even if you haven't consciously used Google+ . You must know yourself where you got those URLs in the first place and where you have uploaded your images.

On the error page you talked about, where I land if I click Google+ links at your site, it says this:

What happened to consumer Google+ content?
We are in the process of deleting content from consumer Google+ accounts and Google+ pages. This process will take a few months to complete, and content may remain through this time. In the meantime, if you previously created content on Google+, you may be able to download and save your remaining Google+ content. You may also be able to view and delete your remaining Google+ activity.

That links to here https://support.google.com/plus/answer/1045788 with links and instructions. Have you tried that?

Yes -- All I get is the error message that "Consumer accounts (typically ending in @gmail.com) were shut down on April 2nd, 2019." I'm not aware that I ever had a "Google+ account", and if I did apparently I can no longer access it.
I guess I must have used Google+, briefly, when I built the website in 2014 or before, but don't remember it; and don't know why I would use it or what for. It does not seem to appear anywhere else in the RaphaelConsulting.com website. I did a full zipped backup of the website (and restored it at a different ISP), but the details of what was in the Google+ portion is not obvious -- that's what I am looking for!

Google Drive, perhaps? Just guessing...

Who knows?

It was some great trips you took, BertR. Surely you have the images on your harddrive or saved on CDs or something?

Since the link appears to go to a Google+ account, I guess it was the standard layout used Google+. No idea what that looked like, but probably similar to Facebook or Myspace. Selection and order of the images is probably impossible to know if the account has been deleted, however.

Maybe you could narrow an image search on your own computer by searching for images created or modified by the time the web site was created? unsure.gif

Wow, Christian J, that's terrific! I was unaware that Google was backing up many of my pictures, including "album" collections that were exactly what I had on my website! (and pandy, thanks for your suggestions too.)
I have restored the wiped-out "google plus" pages with albums I found on the photos pages. Look at <raphaelconsulting.com/travels> to see some of the trips we took about a decade ago.

So you found the actual pictures?

Hm, http://www.raphaelconsulting.com/travels.html still just shows the links to Google+. unsure.gif

BertR, save your images, upload them to your server and create your own album pages, as you've done for the first group of photos, http://raphaelconsulting.com/Libya1.html .

Obviously hosting pictures on Google isn't to be trusted. They closed one service, they can close another. And what's the point? It isn't huge files. I can't see you gain anything at all by storing them with a service over which you have no control. Just sayin'. happy.gif

Yes it's some sort of Google URL. But it's not a 404 ("Page not found" response code), I get a Google login form.

Not consciously.

Doesn't matter. The page isn't there. The link doesn't work.
