But I often hibernate in the middle of editing photos when sleepiness hits me, and things like that I wouldn't be able to recreate exactly and may have put a lot of work and time into. |

Also, even if chose to shut down by mistake, that doesn't explain why there was an update downloading in the first place.
Could it be the Version 21H2 update was forced upon you out of the blue? ISTR that one was labelled "unskippable", but personally I didn't dare to wait and see what would happen after the deadline. |

"System information app" it calls itself. Bring up the start menu and type "Windows version". If I look where you did it says 21H2 for me too.

Never understood why the same organization uses different names for the same version.
What I was wondering was which update version that was forced upon you recently? It got me thinking of the mandatory 21H2, maybe that got special abusive priviligies, just like when Windows 7 tried to force-upgrade itself to Windows 10. Also I recall you can't postpone certain updates more than a specific period of time --do you wait long between updates?  Then apparently Windows will reboot by itself after an update (unless you disable that), so if an update got force-downloaded it's not a big step to force-reboot as well. Maybe Windows was courteous enough to wait until you chose Hibernation? |

How do you mean? Why wouldn't the latest update be the one listed? They can't very well hide what version you've got.

Thanks for the link, I will check it out. I have Windows 21H1 installed, have never seen an update for 21H2. This is what I get when I right-click on the Windows start icon and select 'System':

Well, I've never 'postponed' any update. As far as I can remember I haven't even been offered the update.
I don't have any problem downloading updates. I'm on a wired connection and downloads are fast. I was talking about the actual install process time. The time I was talking about is only for the install process, not the download. |

Actually, my PC's shutdown menu has no explicit option for Hibernate, only Shut Down and Sleep. The exact behavior of the Sleep option seems to be defined in the Settings menu, possibly with a grayzone between sleep and true hibernation.
