Hi Everyone,
I'm not sure I even belong here because my computer skills are minimal and I actually have been a health care professional for 15 years.
I just figure you're the best to ask...
I have been looking for this type of video sharing site for a few months now and I can't find one anywhere no matter what I google.
I think I have found a niche area I would like to develop that could benefit many people. I strongly believe it will grow like the relatively new wellocities.com although it would not be related to health care, and I don't wish to divulge it just in case it is truly an original idea that does not exist. I am sure it will be created in time by someone else.
There are so many youtube clone scripts, from bargain price to several thousands, many reported with bugs. I wish to create something original using a reliably-made efficient script with most of the key video sharing elements found on most sites and a few new tweaks.
There are also tons of hosting companies to choose from.
I am not trying to make a living on this because I already have an established career. I just want to help people on a greater level and I am sure this type of site would get multiple hits and people returning to it.
Since it would be free to view and upload, I understand I may need to advertise as a source of revenue to keep it going status quo. This is another area (maximizing advertising) I know little about.
Maybe you think I am crazy because there are hundreds of video sites out there, new startups every day, probably made by web experts. I know I would also be entering this on the tail end of the web 2.0 craze in a well-crowded market.
My questions are: I just don't know where to start, how much it will cost, and whether I will need professional help to maintain it, and whether it's even worth trying to accomplish.
I'm just looking for honest answers.
Fiona from Canada
