Actually, you may have found the one compressed format that we did not have support enabled for. However, now that I noticed it I disabled all formats of compressed file upload.

The reasons are:
  • Allowing compressed format uploads is inherently unsafe for our users. Someone could unknowingly or maliciously upload a virus or worse...
  • Most of the experts on these forums are not going to take the time to download a zipped file to answer a question.
  • Documents needing review should be uploaded as such, or better yet placed on a web server somewhere so they can be viewed live.
  • A compressed file can still be linked to on another server, just not this one.

I do not know who to ask but as I am new to this area of computing, I have a RAR program now installed in my laptop and every time I try to unzip an RAR file it asks me for a password. I have not inserted a password and do not want to use passwords. How can I open an RAR file without using the password facility

Google for "password protected rar files".
Maybe, one of the many results returned will help you out.
