Here is the viewport that I am using within the <head> section and a link to a pic of the result on my Huawei P30. It is similar on my tablets and my Samsung S4 mini...
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1"> https://ibb.co/D4LbGYd The problem is the very narrow presentation. It should be occupying most of the screen width. I have been working with this document for years on different computers, using MS Word or different "compatible" software and I have not seen this before. I ran a backup which worked correctly back in May and it now shows the same result. It all works as expected on a desktop PC. Has anybody else seen this? Is there a fix? An image of the page doesn't help a lot, could you link to a test page showing the problem?

An image of the page doesn't help a lot, could you link to a test page showing the problem? I created a small, simple Test.docx file on Google Docs from my original, large Autobiog.docx by copying the first paragraph into Notepad++ and then back into Google Docs, to remove all formatting. I downloaded Test.docx from Google Docs as Test.html then used Notepad++ to insert the <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1"> after the tag for head. I renamed the file to AutoBiog.html and ran it from my website using my Huawei P30 smart phone. Here how it appeared... It is similar on each of my other smart devices - S4 mini, Tab E, and ZTE tablet. It seems apparent to me that this is not right. For years up until a few days ago the viewport occupied a left justified, almost-full section of the screen. I am running Win 10, IIS 10 on my home computer. Website is https://mickwebsite.com I am wondering if anyone else has come across this, and if there is an explanation and hopefully a fix. |

I am running Win 10, IIS 10 on my home computer. Does it look normal on your home computer? QUOTE Website is https://mickwebsite.com This particular page: https://mickwebsite.com/OffPage/Work/AutoBiog.html ? I don't see any in the code causing that effect. |

Thank you for taking the time with this. As a test ran thru the process with Neat Office, a "free" MS Office type of package. I very carefully processed the program in both Neat Office and Google Docs, step by step, and the problem did not occur with Neat but it did occur with Google Docs. So I will next go to Google Docs help and see what I can learn there. I'll report back to this thread with whatever I find out. Thanks again, Mick |

I found an excellent DOCX to HTML converter... https://cloudconvert.com/docx-to-html So I do my editing on Google Docs, download the .docx file to my computer and use CloudConvert to produce a perfect HTML file. It is free for occasional users and has pay plans for big users. It is NOT a typical free site, it actually works very well, every time Note: Sometimes in the evening it is very busy. I just come back later. Mick |

That sounds like a very convoluted way of doing things, even assuming it does produce perfect HTML files. Why not write the HTML yourself from the start?

I see the problem, but it has nothing to do with the viewport Meta tag. It's something in the linked CSS. Of course the content is an image so it won't be wider than the image, 900 pixels something.
Convoluted, yes. You don't need all that markup and other stuff to display one big image and a row of icons... Also, if you want people to find this page you may want to use real text instead of an image of text. |

I was going to have look at the style sheet, but I'm afraid that isn't going to happen. It's insanely large. A big part of it is loading web fonts and considering you only use a few words of text on the whole page it's hard to see how that's useful. Where on earth did you get hold of that thing?

Hm, seems the OP has changed https://mickwebsite.com/OffPage/Work/AutoBiog.html since I first looked at it. I recall it was a very simple page, with little or no CSS.
