Hi,

I have never done any web authoring without WYSIWYG editors (eep!) but have a concept I'd like to flesh out. The problem is that I don't know where to start to figure out how to do it. It is (seemingly) rather simple, so I don't think I need to learn an entire language, but if someone could pinpoint where to start, I'd appreciate it.

I want to create a website that will do the following:

-Have a database consisting of short strings, each associated with URLs.
-Allow manipulation of that database from the website (retrieval of URLs given a certain string, insertion/editting of entries)

Also, I want input (search terms) to be able to be reformatted so they retrieve the correct URL. For instance, I might want the letters "afgj" to be associated with "http://www.google.com," but have the order be irrelevent (so, someone could type in aghf or fajg). Also, it would be useful to have a wildcard function (afg* to retrieve any entry with the letters a, f, g).

Thank you so much for your time!

What kind of experience do you have with programming or databases?

One of these prewritten redirection CGI programs or prewritten redirection PHP programs may meet your needs.
