Have you heard?
"Six months ago, AVG acquired Exploit Prevention Labs and its LinkScanner, a tool that automatically scans search engine results before you click on them. If you search Google, for instance, and ten results turn up, it visits all ten links to ensure they're malware free." http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/06/13/av...raffic_numbers/ http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/06/26/av...traffic_as_ie6/ http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=212277 |

Isn't this "pre-scanning" meaningless? Why preload a page at all when you might as well use AVG as a proxy, but only once you've decided to view a page? The whole point in downloading all pages in the search result seems to be for the preloading "feature", not for security.
BTW didn't some other browser/addon let you preload pages from links on the current page a few years ago? Something like this: http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/operaStuff/me...ml#preloadlinks but I don't think that's the one I remember. |
