Hi All
I am new to the world of web development. I am wanting to know if any one can help me wit this although it may be simple for most people here. I want to show the path the website visitor has taken to get to a certain page for example: HTMLHelp Forums > Web Authoring > Markup (HTML, XHTML, XML) The above is the path I took to get here. I am wanting to add this to a website I am currently building to learn how to do it. As stated I am a beginner and I have only just started. Thanks in advance |

Hi, You are describing what is called a breadcrumb navigation system - lots of interesting and educational material on this on the web. Do a Google search for breadcrumb navigation.
Good luck! Hi All I am new to the world of web development. I am wanting to know if any one can help me wit this although it may be simple for most people here. Be aware that "breadcrumb navigation" is something of a misnomer. It isn't really useful to show someone where they've been; that information is already available in their browser history. What is more useful, and what most "breadcrumb navigation" actually does, is to show someone where the current page fits in the hierarchy of the web site.
So this page will always show > HTMLHelp Forums > Web Authoring > Markup (HTML, XHTML, XML) because that is where the page fits in the heirarchy of the site (unless a moderator moves this thread to a different forum, since it isn't really about markup). Even if you got to this page some other way (for example, following a link from another thread, or following a link directly from search engine results), the "breadcrumb" navigation links will remain the same. |
