Hey guys
I have been working on a site, which has 8000 to 11000 visits per day. We are using VPS. But tis company is bothering us a lot, cause of several reasons which made us stat thinking about getting a Dedicated server with a different company. The site main subject is advertising and something like yellow pages in persian language. So actually all these visitors are persian. 85% of the site visitors comes through their google search. I was wondering about getting this dedicated server from a foreign company (I know a good british one). As google show the search results to a user depending on what country he is in (or IP address), does it make any difference what company/server/ip /(anything that makes a difference here) we use ? I hope i get you what i mean |

If you use your own domain, no, it doesn't matter. Google don't know where it's hosted.
I didn't understand this bit, so maybe I misunderstand the whole question. QUOTE As google show the search results to a user depending on what country he is in (or IP address)... |

I think so, at least if you use the their localized domains. For example, I get a slightly different result if I use google.se than if I use google.com. I don't know if they actually serve different results depending on where you come from. Hope not. I hate that stuff.

I think so, at least if you use the their localized domains. For example, I get a slightly different result if I use google.se than if I use google.com. http://www.google.com/ gives me a 302 redirect to http://www.google.se/ at least http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en lets me choose by myself. QUOTE I don't know if they actually serve different results depending on where you come from. Hope not. I hate that stuff. On http://www.google.se/ you can choose between pages "in Swedish" or "from Sweden". I assume the former means pages with a LANG="sv" attribute, and the latter sites with a Swedish TLD. According to e.g. http://www.seroundtable.com/archives/003792.html or http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog/060508-235246 Google does look up registrar data, but to me the physical location of a domain name owner or a web server doesn't seem relevant to most web searches. |

Thank you, I'm aware of the options. You can choose to use google.com, google.hk, google.com.au and so on and they give you slightly different results for your searches. There's no doubt about that. Question is if you in addition to that get different results depending on your IP. I.e. if I and asmith make the same searh using, say, google.com, will we get the same result? I think so and I certainly hope so. |

There's no doubt about that. Is there a difference between ordinary searches when using the "search the web" option? In cases of deliberate censorship I guess there's a difference even if you choose "search the web". QUOTE Question is if you in addition to that get different results depending on your IP. I.e. if I and asmith make the same searh using, say, google.com, will we get the same result? I think so and I certainly hope so. Considering they're trying to force me to google.se with a redirect, I think so too, at least for ordinary searches. OTOH when a search engine tries to censor sites it seems lazy not to use IP. |

Well, I don't think so, once you've made your choice. |
