Hello all. Any assistance on this would be greatly appreciated.

Is it possible to retrieve someone's e-Mail who visits your website? If so, how would I go about doing that? Is it illegal to do so? If so, can you please point me in the direction which states that.

Yes - you ask them for it.

"If you would like to know more, email me at [funny picture disguising your mail address from spambots]". When they send you an email, you have the return address.

No, this is not possible unless you specifically ask them for it by having them fill in a form.

You can view the IP address of visitors coming to your Web site, which can then allow you to view the contact details for your visitors Internet service provider.

Why are you trying to get the email address of your visitors? If we know why, maybe we'll be able to suggest another option which is possible.

Thanks everyone.

I was requested to retrieve the visitor's e-Mail address when they hit our page and place it in a log or database to see who has visited the site. If not the e-Mail address, the domain they are from might suffice.

Any thoughts on this.

Dan,

Your Web server is already collecting TONS of data on your visitors including things like their IP address, referring domain name, and lots of other stuff. If you have access to those log files you can run some free software on them to analyze them.

Another option is to sign up for the free Google Analytics. You just add one line of code to each page on your site and they'll gather all kinds of great data for you about your visitors.
