"mailto" and webmail Options

By chance I stumbled on this. There seems there is a way to "link" to a pre-filled email if the user only uses webmail, at least if he uses GMail and it won't be with mailto...

If one clicks the red email icon under the blog post, have an google account and, I assume, is logged in to that account, a mail ready to be sent will splat up.



One assumes these guys are involved (can't be arsed to read) and that Google provides an API?

Sorry the text is barely readable on the screen cap. I had to shrink it to be allowed to upload it. But I hope you can see it's a browser window, not an email client.

Had to enable a whole slew of third-party scripts to even see the GMail icon; but yes, the link seems to lead to:

Doesn't this require shareaholic.com to know your GMail credentials?

Don't think so if you are already logged in to Google.

That blogger doesn't use that icon since several years. I guess he stopped using it for a reason. First time I visit that site. I got a link to that specific post and saw the icon and got curious.
