I’m reaching out regarding an issue with the search results for "Sparrows Tattoo Company" on Google. It appears that a specific artist's name is being displayed in the search snippet, rather than the first paragraph or main content of the page. This artist’s name seems to be the focal point of the search result, and I am curious as to why this is happening.

I have reviewed the page source code but did not find any obvious factors that would explain this behavior. An in-depth explanation of why this might be occurring would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your assistance. I look forward to your insights.

Best regards

I actually get the first snip of text on the page.

"Largest tattoo shop in Mansfield since 2013. Founded By Clint Cummings. #FUCKCANCER Walk-ins are welcome for piercings, tattoos, and consultations."

Maybe your browsing or search history is the reason you get a different result. Alas, Google isn't the same for everyone.

Be cool to see what everyone results are as screenshots just to see how varying it is. Seems google is indexing different things to different people but the same thing in one particular location.

I see the same as Pandy. Maybe you are seeing a cached result version. Try clearing your Browser cache.

No, that's from the site's default page, I think the OP means the snippet for the Tattoo Artists main page, as shown in the screenshot.

Seems DDG mentions the same artist as well (second link from the top): https://duckduckgo.com/?q=sparrows+tattoo+s....com&ia=web --so it's not just the OP that sees this result.

I have reviewed the page source code but did not find any obvious factors that would explain this behavior. An in-depth explanation of why this might be occurring would be greatly appreciated.

This is what Google says:

"Snippets are automatically created from page content. Snippets are designed to emphasize and preview the page content that best relates to a user's specific search. This means that Google Search might show different snippets for different searches.

Snippets are primarily created from the page content itself. However, Google sometimes uses the meta description HTML element if it might give users a more accurate description of the page than content taken directly from the page."
https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/snippet

The Tattoo Artists page does contain the artist text used in Google's snippet (shown on the Tattoo site when you hover the artist's image). Why that artist is singled out I can't say, but there are minor differences in the HTML of each artist:

CODE
<div class="dsm-content"><p>Resident of the...
<div class="dsm-content"><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Jess is a...
<div class="dsm-content"><p><span style="color: #ffffff;">For over 15 years...
<div class="dsm-content"><p>Darin Owens is...
<div class="dsm-content"><p>I’m Tyler Mott...

--could the white text styling: <span style="color: #ffffff;"> somehow make Google single out that section? If anything, I'd think it could make Google view it as hidden content. unsure.gif

A few other wild guesses:

Maybe other sites link to that artist's dedicated page, or mention that artist in link texts, therefore making Google favor that artist name keyword?

Has the website undergone changes at some time, such as previously having only that artist's content on the Tattoo Artists page (instead on a separate page, like it is now)?

Have you ever used a META description mentioning that artist specifically?

Don't you get the snippet from the Artists sub page (highlighted with a red border in the screenshot next to the other five sub pages)?

Ive had someone else do a search and they got the first paragraph of that Artist page: as the preview, another person got another Artist's Info in the area.

Whats happening the person coming up the most next to the subpage ARTISTs is getting blammed for multiple angles that they are "Making their name appear all the time for the search for the page, that they added some special code or what not." I know for a fact that isn't the case. But they are insisting that they did and refusing to offer any other verdict to the matter.

I believe it has a lot to do with the algorithm and perhaps google for the reason of the same results in one establishment, when outside of the establishment and other states people are getting various results of the snippet preview of the artists page, from the different artists within that page to the first paragraph written on that page.

In theory it might be possible with something similar to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_bombing --that is, other websites could link to the Artists page using the person's name as link text. You might take a look at the webstats for the tattoo site if there are such referrer links. But even if there are, it doesn't have to mean such links were created in order to manipulate search results, maybe it's just happy customers posting about the artist. unsure.gif

Not my fault and more what one would expect to get than something from a page further down in the pile. Maybe the OP has googled the artist and now Google serves him what it thinks he wants in its usual helpful way.

But we are discussing the snippet from a sub page (the one about Tattoo Artists). huh.gif Google's search results include snippets from several (all?) of the site's sub pages.

No, I get the same result, and in both Google and DuckDuckGo. Here's mine (look under the Tattoo Artists heading):

So odd because there is nothing in the code that would push more results for that particular artist. So it has to be something with google indexing and/or a combination with algorithm with the search in the establishment. It's odd because people are getting various results not just that artist for the snippet.

IPB Image

When you'd think like most pages that are indexed and crawled would display like the below image. Just doesnt make any sense to me.

That's odd that Christian gets the same result. I'd expect Christian and I would be more likely to get similar results. We are in the same country in Europe and have to my knowledge never visited the site before or even googled tattoos.
