Does anyone understand quite what this outfit does? They describe themselves as "web analytics", but generally everything is couched in "business" terms whose actual significance escapes me. I did find some stuff from them advocating that their clients "move from 3rd party cookies to 1st party cookies". They don't look like anyone I want to trust.
Anyway, I noticed an odd "certificate problem" from clickshift.com while using my online bank access: obviously I clicked the thing to say "Don't access the site", and have blocked cookies from clickshift.com and webtrends.com. Why should my bank be using an outfit like that, I wonder? I can't see any point in this, unless webtrends are basically providing them with cross-website information. Personally I'm don't get very agitated about "privacy" (you can find my photograph and my date of birth with a web search, because they are not secret information), but I expect when I connect to my bank to be doing just that. Does anyone have any views on how reasonable this (their use of webtrends) is? Thanks - I got an anodyne, and actually wrong response to my initial enquiry, but I'd be grateful for suggestions before spending time getting irritated. |

QUOTE This incident is mentioned here: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/04/20/ll...sb_cert_glitch/ Thanks for the link, Christian. Looks like the Reporter person said exactly what I thought, which is at least encouraging. |
