I scanned my website www.TexasMilitia.Info with a website analyzer
https://www.rankwatch.com/tools/web-analyzer.html for errors. The analyzer says, "Robots.txt Missing." Below is the first part of my HTML code with the Robots line in bold. Can someone please show me what my Robots.txt HTML code should be? I scanned my website www.TexasMilitia.Info with a website analyzer https://www.rankwatch.com/tools/web-analyzer.html for errors. One good thing the above tool points out is the missing image ALT texts. Writing proper ALT text can be tricky, especially for images of comics, or images of long text sections (like "4th Armor of God mod 7.jpg"), which is discouraged. For purely decorative page dividers (like "TX flagbar.gif") empty ALT values work fine though. Here are a few guidelines: https://www.w3.org/TR/2014/REC-html5-201410...tent-0.html#alt https://www.htmlhelp.com/feature/art3.htm QUOTE The analyzer says, "Robots.txt Missing." Below is the first part of my HTML code with the Robots line in bold. Can someone please show me what my Robots.txt HTML code should be? robots.txt has the same purpose as the META robots HTML tag, but in a separate text file. Both are completely optional, and you don't need any of them for your site. http://www.robotstxt.org https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robots_exclusion_standard |

Thank you very much for the links and the advice ChristianJ. I won't bother with a robots.txt then.
The images on my website are just for decoration and motivation so I see don't any advantage to having words appear if the image doesn't show up. Does not having ALT texts hurt my SEO? I never used to worry about SEO. For many years my website always got somewhere on the first page of Google for searches of "Texas Militia" but then Google and DuckDuckGo started social engineering to down rank pro-constitutional rights, pro-gun rights, and state's rights websites. |

Does not having ALT texts hurt my SEO? Not sure, but I don't think it gives you a higher position in search results. I think it's more that ALT text may give search engines more text to index, and because of that appear in more different search queries. QUOTE I never used to worry about SEO. For many years my website always got somewhere on the first page of Google for searches of "Texas Militia" but then Google and DuckDuckGo started social engineering to down rank pro-constitutional rights, pro-gun rights, and state's rights websites. Can't say what's going on with that. If search engines are intentionally downranking sites for political reasons, it may be futile to try compensating with better SEO. Maybe it's better to promote other search engines. |

Hi Mike777,
Website seo is an evolving process which needs to be monitored on a regular basis to maintain or improve your position. There are lots of factors that contribute to proper seo. Here is a couple of links to help you in your quest: https://backlinko.com/google-ranking-factors https://web.dev/measure/ The backlinko post is a bit of a long read but provides very valuable information. The other link is a way to test your pages in a lab environment powered by Googles PageSpeed Insights and is an audit of your site with issues flagged and solutions provided (you may have to research them to understand them). By the way your site code is looking a lot better than the first time I viewed it. Keep at it and you'll not only learn lots but achieve better results. |

Thanks for the advice and thanks for the links nootkan. I had not seen those links before.
My website's performance score was only 47 at https://web.dev/measure and said, " Does not have a <meta name="viewport"> tag with width or initial-scaleNo `<meta name="viewport">` tag found" I don't know if I should add a <meta name="viewport"> or not. The regular font size for the text on my website is 3 Veranda. If I make it 4 or 5 so it can be seen better on cell phones do you think the font size would be too large for computer's? On my old cheap android cell phone when I turn it to landscape display the font size looks good to me. Do you think I should change the veranda font to the more common Arial or do you think it doesn't matter any for SEO which font I use? |
