Okay, this computer -- like many composers -- are now using WindowsXP, and XP automatically makes the link buttons that you click, have beveled edges. It's annoying and I need them back to regular buttons for what I am doing. Is it possible to make Internet Explorer view the buttons in the Windows Classic style?

Computers, composers . . . most widgets are rendered by the browser. You don't have control over them.
apparently that's not right . . . see below . . . Does that mean I can make my all browsers look as ugly as Explorer? This post has been edited by jimlongo: Dec 11 2006, 02:01 PM |

If you just mean on your own computer, see http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documen...w.mspx?mfr=true
If you want others to see the old style buttons on a web page you can style them with CSS, certain properties like background-color automatically make it go back to the classic theme. |

Actually that article says: "Unlike the input-based buttons, the majority of browsers do not force any particular design on the button element, leaving it a raw ingot which we can cast and shape to our liking." but IE6 does indeed use the XP theme design even on BUTTON. There are also some problems with BUTTON being mentioned in http://www.digital-web.com/articles/push_my_button/comments/ |

I was reading the comments in that articel, and glad to find I wasn't the only Safari user who did a double take on the OS X BUTTONS. Clearly the Safari and Opera BUTTONS are reversed.
A little further investigation reveals that Opera ripped the native Safari INPUT widget. Safari on the other hand uses the rounded gel button for INPUT and a generic square windows looking BUTTON - I would guess since they figure you would be styling that. Bottom line from that article is don't use BUTTON unless you're looking for usability problems. |
