Just noticed Meyer's CSS Discuss is dead.
The main site is up, but links lead to a restaurant. Wayback Machine has the Wiki but not the archive. That link isn't live, neither on the live site or at Wayback, which is peculiar. http://www.css-discuss.org/ Why do they do this? I'm with uncle on this! http://www.useit.com/alertbox/980614.html [EDIT] Hi! |

I guess nobody wanted to pay for the domain name anymore. I can understand that, do we really have to keep paying forever?

Come on, it's 10 bucks!
It seems so odd. A burger place or whatever it is grabs the domain name and keeps the front page up? QUOTE do we really have to keep paying forever? Yes! If the site is of general interest. Facebook could stop paying for theirs any day without me crying. I have loads of links to posts in that darn archive. That's worth nothing now. The archive was on another domain, not owned by Meyer IIRC, and the burger people have eaten that too. https://archivist.incutio.com/viewlist/css-discuss/ |

OK, the list archive is here.
https://lists.css-discuss.org/mailman/private/css-d/ I remember the archive moved to another domain, but thought it moved TO incutio from css-d when it must have been the other way around. |

But there is no spam. It seems to be a legit restaurant. They get traffic, yes, but who in the search for CSS wisdom thinks: "Stuff it, I'll drive/fly to WhateverCity and buy a burger instead!"? I don't get the point.
CSS God or not, I think Meyer owed the community to keep the domain and the wiki up. It could all be a mistake or some sad mishap of course. Lost a domain recently myself because I forgot to check the email I had used with the registrar. I thought I had changed it everywhere. First time it has happened, but shameful nevertheless since other people were also involved. Not as many as used css-d of course, on a more modest scale shameful. Anabdoned yourself! |

This post has been edited by Christian J: Today, 01:39 AM What's with that? Have you resigned as moderator? I never get that line. No matter how old the post is. Look at the bottom of my first post in this thread. I also edited my typo (cone one instead of come on ), both in my post and where you quoted it. No edit-line. |

But there is no spam. It seems to be a legit restaurant. Now I checked myself, and it seems only the Wiki och Public links (that lead to incutio.com) redirect to rumpandwade.co.uk/. Maybe the owners of incutio.com is doing the redirect? The expired/hacked sites I've seen before spammed in more obvious ways IIRC, like mixing the original text with clear spam links. QUOTE who in the search for CSS wisdom thinks: "Stuff it, I'll drive/fly to WhateverCity and buy a burger instead!"? The same people that would open email spam links? |

I see that you have edited my post too now. QUOTE I never get that line. You have to tick the "Edited by" checkbox manually. |

QUOTE You have to tick the "Edited by" checkbox manually. Yeah, I didn't see that yesterday. I must have missed it. Would be strange if there was a delay. |

Maybe the list after all is alive. But the Wiki should have been saved anyway. It's still useful and I link to it all the time. Wasn't that long ago I did it. Mostly to the "Clearing space" page. QUOTE The same people that would open email spam links? But come on, they don't get any money unless you actually go there and buy a meal. What use do they have for clicks? I think the effect should be negative if anything. If that restaurant was in my city I wouldn't go there ever and I would tell everyone about their pesky marketing. |

What does that matter to local food joint? Have you ever googled restaurant + your city? You know where you want to go and want to check the menu and or prices or book a table 99 times of 100.
On the ohter hand, maybe you are right. They could have hired a SEO expert. This is a pizza place in the outskirts of town, new residential houses and old industrial area mix. I doubt they even have tables, it's just a hole in the wall. But they want to play! |

I was going to attach an image, but couldn't. Then I accidentally submitted the post.
I don't get any error message and the image is small. It looks like the form submits when I click the button but nothing more happens. |

You could edit your original post and upload the image to it.
Now that I think of it, my local supermarket has a sign that begs customers to even like them on Facebook. |
