Hi friends,

When accessing my web-site http://www.pari.co.il - i am getting an 406 error:

"This error (HTTP 406 Not Acceptable) means that Internet Explorer was able to receive information from the website you visited, but the information was not in a format that Internet Explorer can display.
For more information about HTTP errors, see Help."

This only started occuring after I updated my IE-7 to the newest security update. FireFox works fine, also IE-7 and other version in other PCs show the site well.

I saw some solutions saying this is a server problem that is related to the security_mod or Apache... I have asked my provider to assist - but they do not see the problem.

Anyone have seen this before?

No charset is specified in neither header nor HTML document, maybe that confuses MSIE?

Also check that it's not one of the framed pages that's causing the trouble.

You may also want to fix the validator errors: http://htmlhelp.com/cgi-bin/validate.cgi?u...mp;warnings=yes

The ecncoding is set in a META TAG... I will fix the validator errors, but i don't think this is the problem - Explorers in other computers are showing it properly...

Now I found it. blush.gif According to http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/charset.html#h-5.2.2 META tags should appear as early as possible in the HEAD section (in order to affect all content?).

Escape the ampersands in the URL for this IFRAME and see if that helps. I.e replace them with & .

HTML
<iframe src="http://pirsomot.info/show_ad.php?t=2&s=0&p=2283&cat_id=11&width=468&height=60&ref=main1" width="468px" height="60px" scrolling="no" frameborder="0"></iframe>

thought you were on to something, so i took it down completly and it still didn;t change.

I really think it is a server-side issue, since i get this message to every page in my URL -
http://forum.pari.co.il is a good example also.

What do you mean you took "it" down completely? The page at http://forum.pari.co.il i
or the page shown in that iframe? blink.gif

My thought was that maybe the URL itself could cause this when IE tried to load the framed page, since some googling found that IE7 can indeed throw this error for illegal characters in URLs. '&' is allowed in URLs, obviously, but the link is still HTML where ampersands have a special meaning and the browser may try to convert them (and the following characters) to something that is illegal in a URL. They should be escaped anyhow.

OK, and that page doesn't have that IFRAME.

Please go here with your IE7, copy the result and show us.

Even better, go here and install ieHTTPheaders (it's small and free). Empty IE's cash and then go to your site again and catch the headers. Then we can maybe see what happens.

And there it stopped...

OK, here's IE6 for comparison. Hopefully someone smart can make something of this. Darin? tongue.gif

Try removing content on the page (or a copy of it) and see if the error eventually disappears.

what content?
The content have not changed for a month, this all started after i udraded my IE to a service-pack, and it is persisting ever since... pbviously it is either something there that only affects a certain ie or a server error... no?

Maybe, but to find a solution we need to pinpoint exactly what causes this. Installing IE 8 on your own machine won't fix it, not if you have vistors with IE7.

I found quite a lot of people with the same problem when I googled, only IE7 causing a 406, but nothing conclusive.

i saw all the posts on the matter... most of it were concluded with "ask your service provider to do something with the security_mod". mine could not see a problem as persistent as i was...

I saw an advise saying to add SecFilterEngine Off in the .htaccess but when i tried it my site could not be loaded anywhere - so i erased it quickly.
I now tried a similar solution - as stated here http://gallery.menalto.com/node/47410
but still nothing...

I am waiting for your advise fellas... thax in advance.

Could it be some problem with your browser after all? Especially if nobody else with IE7 get the error (I don't).
