Hi everyone, just tried to archive my pm contents to make room and when I chose to send the excel attachment or the html attachment all I see is the following in my email no attachments anywhere:

Is this normal or is there a problem with the archives option? I was expecting an excel file attached to the email.

Just tried it and I got a text file attached to the email. Don't know what goes wrong in your case.

I didn't change the default options, but what I got was a text file with some HTML tags in it. I've never used this feature before, so not sure if this is how it has always been.

This was odd. I checked some old emails I have with archived PMs. In the email list, the emails are shown with attachment icons, but as soon as I click an email to preview or open the attachment icons disappears. In the email body itself, filename="pm_archive.html" is followed by encoded content similar to the OP's.

I'm using the Thunderbird email client nowadays. Back when I used Windows Mail I could save the PM attachments.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.

I also use Thunderbird and thought that it may be the issue so I checked the email from my cPanel account and got the same result.

Maybe it has something to do with my mail server configuration so I'll check that out.

Although I still receive attachments from other sources so I doubt it.

Tried archiving as HTML file again, and again got an attachment icon that disappeared as soon as I clicked the email. Next I tried archiving as Excel-file, and then got no attachment icon at all.

The emails say the attached files are encoded as base64, so maybe it's possible to decode them again (but tedious).

Well nothing wrong with my mail server as all my checks come up green.

Must be an issue with this forum script I guess.

I'll try copying each pm individually to my computer and then delete them from my inbox.

Thanks again for the feedback and replies.

I wouldn't be surprised. Alas not the only thing that's wonky here. Alas Christian and I can't do anything about it and the boss seems to have gone fishing or something.

Have any of you tried archiving as HTML file (not Excel), and then opened the email with something else than Thunderbird?

Yes I tried opening it with the email account inside cPanel's Horde and Roundcube with the same results for both html and excel.

I just copied and pasted all the pms/replies into notepad++ and saved them that way for now.

Ha ha, if he's fishing I can live with that as I love fishing.

Wonder what the problem is though. If the cPanel clients also have problems I lean toward it's the forum's fault.

Now I tried another old email that did not come from this forum, and its attachment disappeared too. Maybe my old email attachments were ruined when doing backup between PCs, or when migrating from Windows Mail to Thunderbird.

Doesn't explain why new emails from the forum are broken though.

Must be something amiss with the encoding or decoding, mustn't it? Don't know much about email, just guessing from what you've posted.
