We recently got a significant amount of referral traffic coming to our https://simplea.com/Home from example.com. As example.com is a placeholder website with no external links on it, how come we’re getting traffic from example.com??

Is this a spambot faking the origin? And more importantly is there a way to avoid this (other than creating a filter for unwanted traffic?

It could also be a human user that wants to fake his browser's referrer for privacy reasons. I don't think there's anything one can do about it.

I stopped driving 40 years ago as I thought that the roads were too crowded for safety.

Today's driver faces not only the dangers of the automobile but also the threat of road
rage from deranged drivers.

My tip, obviously, for your wellbeing would be to stop driving posthaste.
