Full Version: "View New Posts" page buggy?

My View New Posts page seems broken. Does this happen to others too?

I get one of the following:

* Read messages are listed with Read icons, and unread ones with Unread icons. I guess this is the correct behavior.

* Read messages are listed with Unread icons. This seems buggy.

* I get the error "Threre[sic] are no posts matching that criteria." Don't know what this means. Possibly it happens more often around midnight.

I now tried deleting my cookies and logged in again. This changed the View New Posts page from the second to the third alternative.

I'd guess. biggrin.gif

I haven't noticed anything awry, but then I don't notice much. sleep.gif

You are right! There were two threads marked with the NEW icon now and I had read all posts already. One thread of three (this one) was OK, possibly because i just visited it before I looked for new posts.

It's a little odd that threads don't go away once you've read them, they still come up in that search. I guess that's how the board works, does cleanup once an hour or something, but that's not how it usually is.

Let's BUMP this thread. tongue.gif

Seems the forum is confused by my "last visit" time as well. For example, just a couple of minutes ago the forum main page said something like

QUOTE
Your current time: Aug 20 2014, 09:04 PM
Your last visit was on: Aug 20 2014, 10:30 AM

--but I have visited the forum several times after 10 AM today. Then I reloaded the forum main page, and now it suddenly says

QUOTE
Your current time: Aug 20 2014, 09:06 PM
Your last visit was on: Aug 20 2014, 01:39 PM

--note how my "last visit" has advanced to 1:39 PM, even though I was here just a couple of minutes ago. Reloading a third time updates the current time, but my "last visit" is still stuck on 1:39 PM:

QUOTE
Your current time: Aug 20 2014, 09:14 PM

I haven't put any thought to it, but I think it's worse too. I've missed your posts in the staff forum several times because the threads have been marked read on that page. That I notice, sooner or later, since we post in the same few threads, but I'm sure it happens with threads in the open forum too and then one may never notice.
Christian J
Yes, when checking the sub forums directly I often find unread posts that I was never notified about by the "View New Posts" page.

Right now the forum main page says:

QUOTE
Your current time: Aug 21 2014, 12:43 AM
Your last visit was on: Aug 20 2014, 09:19 PM

Apparently there's some logic that defines when enough time has passed to constitute a "last visit". Wonder if this has something to do with the unread posts...
Christian J
Still says "last visit" 09:19 PM:

QUOTE
Your current time: Aug 21 2014, 01:44 AM
Your last visit was on: Aug 20 2014, 09:19 PM
pandy
Maybe if you come frequently enough it's seen as the same visit. For me I think it's about right this time.

Would be nice if one could choose 24 hour clock btw. Don't make me think... tongue.gif

Now it show shows new replies for this thread. Obviously there aren't any and I haven't been here for 9 hours. rolleyes.gif

Yes, but what's the time limit in that case? It still showed 09:19 for me, over 16 hours later:

...but now it's suddenly

BTW, in the IPS Community I read that you can choose between "posts since my last visit" or "posts I have not yet read" in the user control panel, but maybe that's a feature of newer board versions since I can't find the setting here.
Christian J
Now it just lags three hours or so:

QUOTE
Your current time: Aug 21 2014, 06:39 PM
Your last visit was on: Aug 21 2014, 03:32 PM
...
Your current time: Aug 21 2014, 08:34 PM
Your last visit was on: Aug 21 2014, 05:35 PM

I can't see any pattern here. huh.gif

Took a quick look but didn't see it under Boards Settings and I don't know where else it could be.
Christian J
Today time seems to go backwards:

QUOTE
Your current time: Aug 22 2014, 11:16 AM
Your last visit was on: Aug 22 2014, 12:24 AM

...and a little later:

Maybe it's part of a newer forum version or a mod.

The big mystery to me is why this thread has nearly 4000 views when only 2 people are interested in it?!

Some of us like to read every thread, even if we can't (or don't want to) contribute to the discussion.

Well that clears that up. Now, about the other 3,999? rolleyes.gif
Christian J
Bots maybe? Also each new post may cause people to view the thread again, so in reality it's perhaps just 266 viewers (4000 views divided by 15 posts).
pandy
Well jimlongo, you've visited the thread several times even if you aren't interested. tongue.gif
