I apologize if I'm not in the correct forum, but I wasn't sure where to post this.

I'm a newbie when it comes to web design, but I'm trying to learn.

My brother wants me to make him a web site. He has a friend that ownes a server that said we can use it to host his site for free. The server is already up and running, so all I need to do now is make the web site and upload it. In the past I've always used GoDaddy, so I'm familiar with how to create websites and upload files and how everything works there. What I'm not clear on is how I would make a website on this other server because it probably doesn't have an HTML editor. I also don't know how I would go about uploading the files if I created the website using a program on my computer instead.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks smile.gif

I move this to the General Webdesign forum.

Good if it doesn't have a HTML creator. You'll make better pages. wink.gif

You write your pages, preferably in a text editor, on you own machine. View the result continuously in different browsers. When you're done you upload all files, html, images and what else there may be to the server. The most usual is to use a FTP program for this. If you are on Windows FileZilla is as good as they get and free.

The interface is similar to that of Windows Explorer. You see your local files in the left window and files on the server in the right. You can drag them over to up- or download or use menu commands.

You need to know what address to use to connect to the server with FTP, your login details (username and password) and also where you should put your files as well as what your web address will be. You have to ask your brother's friend about those things.

Did it help any? I think you'll get it once you try it.
