Full Version: Buttons not working in Safari/Firefox, but OK in Opera

Hi,
I have a site that uses a preloader swf, then a referenced 'splash-screen' - and these load OK, however the buttons on that 'splash-screen' in either Safari or Firefox (Mac) fail to work - clicking on any of them fails to load the referenced swf - even though all swf's are loose in the same directory on the server - BUT everything works OK in Opera... which leads me to believe that the coding within Flash is correct.
Windows browsers - IE for example - also seem to have no problems with the site...
Duzz any1 have any general advice as to what may be the problem with these 2 browsers? I understand there are some glitches with Flash 8 Player in Firefox, so I have the Flash 9 player installed instead...
I used Sitegrinder to create a shell for this Flash site - but since the site works OK in Opera, the developers of SiteGrinder are at a loss as to why this may be happening - and have referred me to the forums to find out what I need to do...
Any advice is greatly appreciated...
The site's URL is: www.ripegraphicdesign.com.au

Why are your object tags in curly braces {} instead of <>? My guess would be that they could be causing the problem.

Sorry for digging this one up, but I'm having this exact same problem, and finding a solution on the net hard to find - and I can confirm that it does have nothing to do with curly brackets as the above comment has suggested (I'm using <> brackets)

What I have discovered is that everything works fine on a windows machine - But when testing on my MAC the URL links fail in Safari & Firefox, yet work fine in Opera..

Any ideas???

Please see the FAQ entry Why does my page display fine in one browser but incorrectly or not at all in another?

For more specific advice, you'll need to post the URL (address) of a document that demonstrates the problem.

well this is related...sort of ; )

I have Flash buttons that "work" but their Over state doesn't display in Firefox (but does in Safari). They are supposed to roll over to red. They do on the Down state but not Over (and no cursor hand). Works fine in Safari and I'm assuming on a PC because my client hasn't complained. Flash Player 10 and Firefox ~ anything funny/quirky about that?

I'm on a Mac ~ I have Flash Player 10 installed and am using CS4 now

it's the simplest site ever (but what the client wanted)

Is your client happy with that all search engines get on that page is an outdated link to Macromedia? But why use Flash for links that could just as well be created with HTML and CSS (or JavaScript)? Why let JS generate the text content?

Without JS and Flash this is all there is.
// Provide alternate content for browsers that do not support scripting // or for those that have scripting disabled. This content requires the Adobe Flash Player. Get the free Flash player

Hi there,

Yep, it's just a bare bones quickie type thing. I usually would've done the site with XHTML & Javascript, but he wanted it to look like it does with the fade-ins and I wanted to practice using Flash--it's the absolutely simplest site I've ever done and was done very quickly, so I haven't yet done any clean-ups. I'll fix the link to Macromeida. That's odd because it was CS3 that created that code. I was doing the bare minimum on this one (I'm usually a hand coder) but will still add the text to the html for SEs...no worries

but anyway, I'm here to see if anyone knew of anything up with Flash Player 10 and Firefox and buttons. I noticed it in a class I teach as well.
