So I recently bought a Flash News Rotator for my site. I couldn't get it to work in firefox. For some reason I check my photo gallery and it wasn't working either. I do know I had a Firefox update recently and was wandering if anyone else is having problems with their Flash Projects in Firefox. Thanks
Frederiek
Didn't you get an answer from the designer of the news rotator?
Does the original demo work in your updated Firefox?
ILG President
I am in current contact with them and they are helping. Here is the problem though. Now I noticed my flash photo album isn't workin on Firefox. I am 100 percent positive it was working and I made no changes to it.

What is weird is the flash that is on other pages like..... mlgpro.com ...... yahoo.com ..... all that flash works fine on my browser
pandy
Do they use the same rotator? wink.gif
Frederiek
No, surely not. Anyway, it can't be the flash itself then, since other flash files work.
I thought we were talking about the flash news rotator from flashcomponents.net. Are you now using another component? Or am I started to get confused with someone else?
pandy
I guess the thing comes with some configuration files. Maybe take a look at those.
ILG President
OK this has got a little messy. Let me clean this up. Let's forget about the news rotator. So I have a flash photo gallery that USED to work 100% with Firefox. I have not changed any of the files. Now it is not working with my Firefox. Here is the url http://www.iowalangaming.com/gallery1.php .

So the one thing I noticed that when I right click on it with IE it says about Adobe Flash Player 10....

However with Firefox it says Adobe Flash Player 9

Can you check these to urls and see if they work with your browsers.

I think this might just be my browser... If this is the case ill be SOOOOO happy because this cross browser stuff is killing me!
ILG President
So I installed Flash Player 10 for Firefox and still not working.
pandy
Where do you keep the images? The URLs in the config file (that I found thanks to my leet skillz) seem to be wrong.

There is no http://www.iowalangaming.com/gallery/s1.jpg . In fact http://www.iowalangaming.com/gallery/ seems very empty. There is no http://www.iowalangaming.com/s1.jpg either. So where are they and how does IE find them?
Frederiek
The images are there in the folder gallery/. In Safari I have access to them. But Firefox returns a forbidden on them and none of the gallery images are loaded in the page.

My Firefox (3.0.1/Mac) already always starts up with an internal error. But with your pages, I also get two warnings. My Safari has no problems with either pages.

I don't know how much of the page(s) is output by the PHP, but the validator reports markup errors on both pages. So does W3C's CSS validator. Fixing those may help.

Do you see files here?

IE does that too when I try to access the images directly, but it still displays them in the flash rotator. Could be the server is configured the way you can't view images directly. Still doesn't explain why that folder looks empty though. unsure.gif

Seems the server returns Forbidden insdead of File Not Found for images (but not HTML).

This image exists and can be viewed.

This non-existing image file returns Forbidden.
http://www.iowalangaming.com/img/qwertyuiop.jpg
Non-existing HTML file returns 404.

Sigh. Why can Safari access the images, I wonder? Can you see the content-type in Safari?
ILG President
http://www.iowalangaming.com/qwertyuiop.html should not be a file. Was my website hacked or something and they changed permissions. I am contacting my hosting company to see whats going on.
pandy
No no! I made it up to show that the server correctly returns a 404 for a non existing HTML file, but for a non existing JPG it returns "Forbidden".
ILG President
thanks for EVERYONES HELP!!!!!!!!!!

I FIGURED IT OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok so the reason everything didn't work was. My hosting has this thing called hotlink protection. It said it blocked people from using like <img > tags and stealing my bandwidth. I forgot that I turned that on a couple weeks ago. This was blocking all of my images or something. So I turned if off and well its working fine!!
pandy
OK, that's good then! biggrin.gif

But it's still very strange. Why does it work that way only in some browsers? Also, usually pasting the URL to the image into the adress field works. I say they must do this in some very odd way! Better not use their anti-leech feature. blink.gif
ILG President
Yah I have no clue why it would work in IE and not the other browsers. I am glad it's over because I was so frustrated I put the rest of the layout on hold until I got the flash fixed. Now I am excited about purchasing some more flash to make my site more interactive. Well thanks. I am sure I will be back soon!
