Hi guys,

I am currently using Vista. When I try to build a web page in either Windows Notepad or NoteTabLite using html and then saving the file with an 'html' extension I am unable to open it in IE. All I get is the original html.

Look at the two fields at the bottom of the Save dialogue.

This works in Notepad and Notetab:
File Name: NameOfYourFile.html
Save As Type: All Files

In Notetab you can also use:
File Name: NameOfYourFile
Save As Type: All Files (*.html;*.htm....)

You have probably saved the document with a double extension, NameOfYourFile.html.txt . That would happen if you type the full name with extension but leave the Save As Type field at the default, Text Files (or Text Documents).

I think you also have Windows configured to hide known file extension. This is risky for several reasons, but it's the factory setting, so if you haven't changed it yourself, that's how you have it. Open any folder and go to Tools | Folder Options . Click on the View tab and uncheck the box in front of "Hide extensions for know file types".

Good choice of editor. I also use Notetab. happy.gif

I followed your instructions as above but finished up with the same result. I used NoteTab Light and even checked at the top of that page and saw that my C:\ had a single extension of .html

I am using Vista and when I click on "Tools", the dropdown menu displays only one Option and that is "Internet Options" and I can't find any reference to either "View" or "Hide extensions for known file types". Am I misreading your instructions.

Many thanks for your prompt response. Greatly appreciated.

I don't have Vista and I don't know what differences there may be, but it sounds like you talk about IE's menu. It's the menu at the top of an open folder. Just click on any folder you have for example on your desktop.

Look what I found. They've hidden the menu itself in Vista. Seems like a good description on how to get it back.

Thank you Pandy. I followed the link, found what you were talking about and undicked it. Everything is now fine in NoteTab Light. Thank you so much. I have also downloaded BlueVoda and was having the same trouble there, but even after getting NoteTab Light to work, BlueVoda is still displaying html in IE. I won't bother with BlueVoda, I will settle in with NoteTab Light.

Many thanks, Pandy; if I wasn't an old 76, I would find you and give you a big hug.

You are welcome. smile.gif

I think you did right in ditching BlueVoda. Stay away from editors that say "No HTML web design knowledge required". They don't have any either. happy.gif
