A case against XHTML?

w3c.org now redirects correctly to w3.org.
Yes, I tried again when I had saved the screen cap and then the error was gone already.
So you see, even the inventors fail sometimes 
It wasn't the redirection failure I found intriguing. 
What did the error mean, that your browser refused to render invalid XHTML?

No of course not.
Even so, their XHTML was apparently invalid as your browser couldn't render it and returned an error.

Not well-formed in the wide sense, I guess. I don't know what this specific error means. I got the impression the referenced image didn't exist, but I stupidly refreshed instead of opening the site again in another browser window and then it was too late to take a closer look.
