I work for a public school and need to add the ability for students to upload files to teacher's network folders. How would I go about coding that?

See this FAQ.

It doesn't need to be Perl and probably you don't need a cgi-bin, but you do need some kind of server side programming language.

Can't you also give them FTP access to a sub directory of your site? Then they can transfer files with Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) or similar (or at least an FTP program). You may not want to give students access to each other's files, which means each student needs his own directory and password.

Why not just create a quick joomla site with Docman? It will allow users to upload and download anything, you can make it public or registered.

If you choose the template I can get this done for you for very pretty cheap and your problem will be solved in 24 hours.

Or you can set it up yourself, Joomla is free after all smile.gif

Err... because it would be overkill? That's like eating peas with a muckrake.

Not really Pandy...!

It all depends if he has fantastico or not, I'm so used to Joomla that I can set it up in about an hour in some cases (as long as I use Rhuk Solar Flare or the stock templates).

Even if it takes him let's say 4-6 hours...how many more hours might he spend monkeying around forums and code to get it done?

But I suppose you do have a point however...it sure didn't take me "4-6 hours" to set up my first Joomla site actually...more like a week at least!

Cheers!

Surely it would take anyone less time to install an upload script than to install and figure out how to use Joomla or any other obese CMS/blogg/whatever.
