When I add anything "pic of sunrise" to the page - http://kalliotn.com/Theflight.html - it moves my nav. bar. I am very new to this and don't know if I am even going at this the right way. I am just trying to make a simple family page and only getting a headache. I want the table -nva. bar- to stay just under the pics "flags" and text. Then I want to be able to add more text and pics below. Can someone please help?

You also have another problem. If you make the browser window smaller the two flag images glide over and cover the text.

Since you say you are new, stay away from 'position: absolute' for now. If you don't know exactly what you are doing you are almost 100% likely to screw your page up. Why not just place the page elements in a natural order in the source?
