Full Version: Lost the HTML file

I was updating a page and somehow managed to save an empty page, and lost all the hand-written, taylored HTML for the page. :-(

It's not a premiered site, so Google cache, and the WayBackMachine don't have it.

I tried the Temporary Internet Files, but I couldnm't find it.

Does refresing the blank coded page empty the old one (the one I want)?

Any help.

I think it may. If you are able to go back in history you may find the previous version.

Ahem, heard of backing your stuff up? tongue.gif

It's been a while since I did this, but I think you should put the browser off-line before you try to get the page in history or it might fetch a new copy.

Yeah, I know -- back up your stuff, something I really, really, really should have done, but not until now; now when I lose a page.

Tried that; it just opened the new, blank page.

How do I do this? I assume there is more to it than simply disconnecting the cable and closing the browser.

May be too late now. In IE it's File | Work Offline . Or just disconnect your computer from the Internet. In IE you could try this. Click the History button and then choose (in the History window) View | By Date. Then try to find a copy of your page from yesterday or the day before.

Maybe the web host has backups (if they can be persuaded into giving you them is another issue).
