I a password protecting a folder using .htaccess & this is working fine.
The problem I have is that when I subsequently open a .doc file, this opens in a new window (this is a browser window not a Word window) - that part is ok. When I close this window, the password box pops up a few seconds after the window closes.
The initial window is still open at the stage.
I am puzzled why the box appears?
If I open a .pdf file and follow the same procedure - no problem, it only seems to be with .doc files.

Any pointers please on what is going on & how to stop this would be appreciated.

No. Sorry, I don't answer HTML questions via PM (or via email).

Just create a temporary username and password for all of us. Delete it once you've fixed the problem. That way you have all of us debugging for you.

I wouldn't do that. Sounds scary.
