Full Version: favicon not working

I am using a "transitional" page to contain in a frame a web site at another domain location. This is being done to avoid transferring a rather large site to a the new domain and to allow meta tags on the primary domain name site. The problem is that favicon is not working on this transitional page. Maybe favicon just doesn't work on a frames page. Is there a work-around for this problem? see www.havenbuilders.com

Thanks,

Tom

The URL http://www.havenbuilders.com/ specifies
CODE
<LINK REL="SHORTCUT ICON" HREF="favicon.ico">

When I check the URL http://www.havenbuilders.com/favicon.ico I get an image that looks like the favicon I see at the URL http://www.havenbuilders.com/

It seems to work fine in Opera and FF. I didn't check in MSIE, because favicons are ignored in MSIE until you bookmark the site.

BTW, it looks like your navigation depends on JavaScript. Note that browser security often prevents JavaScript from one server from manipulating frames that came from another server. And many visitors and search engines can't or won't use JavaScript. And of course, there are all the other problems with frames.

Darin, Thanks for the quick reply. It's a rather large site. How would you go about changing it to a non-frames site, keeping the existing menu and general look?

From the source of the page.

You may wish to code your pages in a superior app to NS 4.7's builder. Although any text editor will do, I recommend Crimson Editor and others will tell you Notepad ++ is good as well.

NS 4.7 is notorious for its CSS bugs and all-round buggy behaviour, and should not be seriously used to build any commerical website with, let alone used to browse any site with.

Using raised buttons for links looks very passe as of 2007. There are far more modern and attractive method to present links. To be honest, it makes the page look 1990's Geocities.

Loading a sound file upon page load is also something from a far distant age and shouldn't be used now. A lot of people won't hear it, especially people at work computers. Others may be listening to music or the like in the background and not want that interfered with by a personal greeting.
