Full Version: UPPERCASE or lowercase?

Sorry to bother you with trivial questions, but I have been away from Web design for a while, and I did a search of the site before posting, in case I could answer my own question.

As I recollect, in early HTML it didn't matter whether you used upper or lower case when writing your HTML code, but I have a strong feeling that lower case is the standard in more recent versions ... or is it in CSS where lower case is preferred?

In summary:

1. which is preferred in HTML/XHTML - uppercase or lowercase?
2. which is preferred in external style sheets - uppercase or lowercase?

Many thanks, James

Please see the FAQ entry Should I use lower case or upper case for tags?

One thing to also keep in mind - *NIX is case sensitive so image.JPG is not the same as image.jpg. Using lower case is usually better for this - it might help prevent problems when an image does not display, etc
