Full Version: Long anchor names passed to javascript

When a long anchor name (longer than 8 characters) is passed to a javascript function to launch a full screen pop-up window, it works for Internet Explorer (MIE) but not for Chrome.
Are there published limits to these string names?
Are there any solutions other than to abandon Chrome and other browsers that fail. I need the long names since they come from image names which are typically longer than 8 characters.
A page example of the use of the javascript function "popup" for this purpose follows:

<HTML>
<HEAD>
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" CONTENT="text/html; charset=windows-1252">
<META NAME="Generator" CONTENT="Microsoft Word 97">
<TITLE>Boehmer Family History</TITLE>
<!-- QQ This is java script to be used for a full size popup window. -->
<script TYPE="text/javascript">
<!--
function popup(mylink, windowname)
{
if (! window.focus)return true;
var href;
if (typeof(mylink) == 'string')
href=mylink;
else
href=mylink.href;
window.open(href, windowname, 'type=fullWindow,fullscreen,scrollbars=yes');
return false;
}
//-->
</SCRIPT>

</HEAD>

onClick="return popup(this, 'notes')">
This link works fine for MIE but Chrome fails . It goes to the last anchor; It appears the anchor is too long.

I strongly recommend not using MS Word for producing HTML.

It goes to the last anchor; It appears the anchor is too long.

Could you elaborate on the error, perhaps post the popup page's code as well?

When I test in Chrome the anchor value is present in the popup page's address field.

Also link elements need to be closed.
