hi, one of my clients would like to put a music clip on her site. I have been trying to get permission, but I never got a response from my email and the phone number I have for the production company is disconnected. Any suggestions?

Is it being used for commercial purposes? If not I wouldn't worry about it. That advice comes from my composer side, my lawyer side is more cautious.

I found a phone number, but they haven't responded. Any suggestions?

You could try ASCAP or BMI, the main performing rights organizations.
Here's an ASCAP page covering this sort of rights clearance. http://www.ascap.com/weblicense/reports/

Do you pay if a clip is under 60 seconds?
May 26 2011, 03:25 PM
Length of use wouldn't have any determination.
Nowadays people license 1 second samples for new uses in records.
Really it probably won't cost much, but you should contact them to get more details.

Contact who? The song is Stand Out by Tye Tribett and GA. One of the phone numbers that's listed on the ASCAP website is disconnected and I left a message with the other number but there haven't returned my call.

I would fill out this form and see what happens - http://www.ascap.com/licensing/license_request.html
