I created a bunch of site templates in dreamweaver. My boss wants to be able to edit the content in these text boxes with a spreadsheet or word document. This means that the content in these boxes will be calling from a text file. Is this possible for the contents of the boxes link to another file. If not html, any other method?

He does not want to use a content managment system like, Macromedia Contribute.

You've described the functionality your boss wants. The name for a system that provides this functionality is a content management system. But your boss does not want a content management system. So he wants the functionality but doesn't want whatever provides it. Have you thought about changing jobs?

There are some free CMS systems, maybe some of them would satisfy you (your boss)?
