Hi All,

I can't successfully insert a photoshop image with a transparent background to DW. I can do it on Go Live-Smart Photoshop, but can't seem to figure out how to do it on DW. Help! Anyone? Please!

I don't know that you'll be able to insert a photoshop image for web use. Go-Live has a lot of interactivity with other adobe programs (because it was an adobe program), but older dreamweavers (maybe new ones) don't have a lot, they were originally Macromedia (not adobe). To export as a transparent image save for web (ctrl-alt-shift-S) as a png or export as a transparent image. My photoshop is older so it's under help.

It shouldn't matter what program crreated the image as long as it's in an acceptable format. You aren't trying to use images in PS's native fomat, are you? For web, the only safe formats are GIF, JPG and PNG (and ICO for favicons).

Oh yes, use the "Save for Web" function in PS (it's called that or something similar). It strips color profiles and stuff that can screw things up.

ok.but how do you remove the white background color again and just make it transparent so that when I insert it to my html page with an image for a background, I won't have that white border.

Was your original photoshop file transparent? Did you add a stroke to the layer? For save for web You may need to click on the layer and clear the layer styles or hide the layers and then export. For export as a transparent image you may need to actually trash the background layer before exporting, I believe this option flattens the image.

Was your image ever on a transparent background? If not then you'll have to manually delete/erase out the parts you want transparent and then save it out.

Can you attach it here?

yah. it's on transparent background. I don't understand why I can do it on GL6 and not on DW CS4 unsure.gif So I do all my editing on GL6. But the display image is not ok. They are not properly aligned. Though, when I preview it on the web, everything looks fine. So I save the one I did on GL6 and open it on DW and the image display is ok. Previews on the web fine too! ??? unsure.gif

I have the preview issue with DW too. I always have to upload it to my test site before I can accurately view it. I'm not sure what the issue is there. As far as it not exporting transparently, I'm not sure why it wouldn't. Although, just so you know, it will not save out with a transparent background if you just do save as. You actually have to do save for web for it to be transparent. Or export transparent image. And it has to be PNG or GIF format. EPS is not web compatible and JPG's don't do transparency.

hey.i did it.thanks 4 the tip. there's a button that you have to click and the original psd file will go transparent when you do a save for web.

is there any free web servers where I can test my html email? since i have the template but don't have a webserver to upload my file. and i just want to try and send and html email to myself and see if the file will open on the body of the email with all the images and links readily available for viewing.
