The reason PCMCIA is inscrutable is that it's actually in Japanese. Of course the letters are the initial letters of English words, but they are arranged according to Japanese grammar...

Paasonaru Konpyuutaa Memorii Kaado Kokusai Kyoukai ... actually sounds quite natural.
