Best hosting service

I worked on my site, and now I’m ready to find a hosting service to ‘publish’ it.

In your opinion, which hosting service is the best? Why do you like it? Cheap? Any other information would be greatly appreciated!

At the moment, I’m looking at Bravenet, Lunarpages, & Geocities. ??

Thank you in advance! smile.gif

Are you talking about paid hosting? Stay away from GeoCities. They mess with your code.

In general, "free" hosting isn't really free. You're paying for it by hosting their ads. Some are worse than others when it comes to mucking with your markup.

For paid hosting, we cannot recommend HostWay/ValueWeb for obvious reasons.

I meant Geo's paid hosting. They inject some code in the pages on paid accounts too. I don't remember what right now. No ads are shown but it screws up validation and maybe more.

No idea. Check around and find a few hosts you like in your price class. Then use Google and sites like http://webhostingtalk.com . Try to dig up bad as well as good about them.

A thing that's worth to think about is if it's easy and free to upgrade. To start with you probably don't need much. It's good if you can choose a smaller and cheaper account and when you outgrow it or need more features you can upgrade.

I am in the process of signing up with cphosting.com, based on the recommendation of peter1968 (member of this board).

Last Saturday afternoon, I send a e-mail to them asking a few details about their basic plan ($50.00/year). I did not expect any answer at least till Monday. To my surprise, when I checked my e-mail mid-morning on Sunday, there was a very complete reply!

One thing that their site does not list is SSI (one of the questions I had asked) for the basic package. It is included! I do not know how important it is for you at this point, but strongly recommend that the hosting package you choose does include it, you will see how handy it comes when you start using the "include" function.

I had been away from web development for about 3+ years, prior to which I managed a dedicated vhosting for over 8 years. Since everything changes so fast now-a-days, I had to ask for recommedations myself.

Hi tamera. I just moved myself and I’ve got to say I like Lunar Pages, 350 gb. for 7 dollars a month, great tech support, lots of good features.

If you are looking for a web server company to manage your server for cheap, check out dreamhost (http://www.dreamhost.com). I used them for about a year and only moved away because I was looking for a dedicated solution. Dreamhost's basic plan offers way more hard drive space (150GB) or bandwidth (1.5TB) then most users will ever need for only $10/month. Use the promo code "HISREACH50" to get $50 off of your first years hosting fees. Just a suggestion.
