Hey all, I'm currently using Host Excellence for my server. They're good, but I've been having very annoying mail difficulties with them. I'm in the market for a new host and I was just wondering if ya'll had any suggestions.

My only stickler is that I want UNIX hosting. No windows for me thanks. Any suggestions?

I've been happy with these guys for the last 2 years.
http://www.ixwebhosting.com

But if you google web hosting providers you see the same 4 or 5 listed quite often. They all provide similiar service and prices. So I have no loyalty - pay 3 months at a time, and could switch in an instant if someone pisses me off.

hmm, for some reason that ixwebhosting looks too good/cheap to be true. It's about the same as my current host as far as price goes. Pair doesn't have the features of IX though and its more expensive. But, pair has telnet/ssh access. that could come in handy every now and then.

decisions decisions.

Try DreamHost.com, my current host, and yes, it's Linux hosting. I know some big guys who are hosting their websites with Dreamhost, like simplebits.com.

Some major features include:
===Shell(telnet/ssh)/FTP login
===Host Unlimited Domains/Subdomain
===200GB Storage(+1GB/week)
===2TB Transfer(+16GB/week)
===1-Click Installs of Major Web Apps of the Newest Version: Wordpress, phpBB, MediaWiki, ZenCart, Joomla, ...
===Sophisticated Web Admin Panel
===97-day money back guarantee

If you think this is too good to be true, feel free to check out these sites that they have for their customers:
===Status Check: http://www.dreamhoststatus.com/
===Team Blog: http://blog.dreamhost.com/
===Wiki: http://wiki.dreamhost.com/
===Forum: http://discussion.dreamhost.com/

By any chance you are interested, it would be nice if you could use my promo code PLANET at signup, it's a $97 discount with a one year/two year plan and a $50 discount with a monthly plan, working out to just $22.40 for the first year. Anyway, it's up to you! smile.gif

The thing that I like, and would look for in any competitor is 24/7 tech support.
IX has telephone, email and live chat support whenever I need it . . . that besides reliability is what I look for.
