I have a local html file which is an altered version of a webcam page from uvm.edu. I want the UVM favicon to display with my local html in IE7, and it doesn't. I've tried clearing Temporary Internet Files and deleting uvm.edu and the local file from History. Does the following test case work for anybody else? Thanks.

<body>

</body>

Maybe IE can't downsize it. Or does the ico file contain a 16×16 version too?

But the same file works fine with www.uvm.edu.

It might be an issue with cross-site favicons. What happens if you use a local copy of the favicon.ico file?

<link rel="shortcut icon" href="file:///C:\Documents and Settings\cds\My Documents\favicon.ico" /> shows no favicon.

Did you delete all old bookmarks and shortcuts before you bookmarked the page with the new favicon?

Yeah, yeah. But IE7 shows favicons in the address bar even without bookmarking.
