Hi,
I've put together a new look for my wife's business. I used Dreamweaver CS5. For some odd reason, the SWF image at the top of the page shows up in Chrome and Firefox but not in IE9. Other features on the page include a Spry Menu and a Like box from Facebook, as well as a call to an eBay database of items she is auctioning. I ran the code through the WC3 validator and I've looked up innumerable IE9 threads all over the web for the last two days trying to find a clue. But I'm afraid I don't have one. A clue, that is. The page can be seen at http://www.sunandwindfarm.com/navtest1.html The infuriating thing is that every now and then the SWF visual does show up in IE9, but usually not. If I reload the page, I can see the visual for a split second and then it disappears, leaving a nice big hole at the top of the screen. If anyone has a clue and takes pity on me, I will be in your debt. All best, Keef |

So does it work in any version of IE? It doesn't in IE7.
I don't know what's going on, but when I try to load the flash directly it works fine in other browsers, but when I go to http://www.sunandwindfarm.com/images/header.swf with IE I get the following. CODE <html><head><script src="res://mshtml.dll/objectembed_neutral.js"></script></head><body objectSource="http://www.sunandwindfarm.com/images/header.swf" onload="ObjectLoad();" leftmargin=0 topmargin=0 scroll=no> <form id="objectDestination"></form> </body></html> |

Hi, and thank you for your response. It works in Chrome and Firefox, but not consistently in IE9 and apparently, judging from browsershots.org, not at all in IE7 or IE8. On the theory that my problem has something to do with the SWF file, I simply superimposed a new logo name across the original photo image and inserted the JPG on the page, where it is working just fine now. Shrug. (http://www.sunandwindfarm.com)
Wish I understood better the nature of the conflict, but at least the new home page is up and is acceptable to the client (my wife), which is all that matters. I've never even seen that mumbo jumbo, obviously injected by Windows, before. The page itself was blank.
I move this to the Flash forum. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than me sees it there. |
