Yes, I guess I am one of the very people, who spends most of his time in front of a computer, but do not have any knowledge of the 'Blog'. So, I am trying to remedy this.

I would appreciate any input, words of wisdom, or pointers in the right direction.

Basic aspects/points I would like to explore are:

The basic concept and the purpose/goal

What kind of coding and/or knowledge required to get into this game

How do the bloggers make any revenues (A few years ago, I heard an interview with writer from a very prestigious publication in New York. He was talking about quitting is job, to devote all his time to blogging.)

Any other points I have not yet thought of.

You might want to start on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blog and go from there.
(BTW, I don't blog).

Not much knowledge. The easy way to do it is install a package, the most popular of which is WordPress. Many hosting services supply 1-click installation.

Please note that a standard installation is very insecure and immediately will be flooded with spam.

So the easy thing to do is install it, the harder thing to do is secure it.
You can find instructions for both things abound around the interweb.
