Which HTML editor do you use?!?!?
There are so may out there it is hard to tell which ones are good.
I think I am going to use dreamweaver (I can get the student version cheap) but want some advise first.

I have been recently learning HTML and some CSS(WOW css is nice!) I now see the need for a page creation program for just the simple reason of site management.

So what’s it gonna be?

GoLive?
Dreamweaver?
VisualWev?
(Frontpage sux so plz don’t hint at that crap)lol

Oh and one other thing! I have been using lynda.com for training and find it decent. It is also cheap enough for me but I have one question. I have found some of the training topics to be to non-descriptive and would like some more in-depth training. Anyone know of any other sites like lynda.com?

I use a text editor. Mainly http://notetab.com/ but sometimes http://www.scintilla.org/SciTE.html and others.

I haven't really *used* any of the editors you mention, but I'd definitely steer clear of GoLive too. Not familiar with VisualWev (VisualWeb?). DW is probably the better choice if you want it for its managing features. I don't give much for its WYSIWYG editor. My reason for saying that is that I've seen too much crappy output from it. That doesn't mean it can't be useful in more capable hands, it probably can.

It sounds like you want to hand code HTML and only will use whatever monster you choose for their other features. I cant help but wondering if it's worth it? I think of both the money and the learning curve.

Right now I am using textpad. I will give notetab a try tonight.

I was thinking about the other programs for the other features.

I also ment visualweb, yes.

BTW what does WYSIWYG?


Do most pros use just an html editor or do most use something like dreamweaver? Also why stay away from golive?

Sorry if this is to many questions, just trying to make educated decesions.

Notetab's main advantage is it's that it's programmable. You can extend it to do pretty much what you want it to do with text and files and automate the processes YOU want automated. You'll find it lacks some features you are probably used to, like configurable syntax highlighting. There's only basic highlighting for HTML and its own scripting language. Alas, it hasn't been updated as it should and deserves. I'm into it since many years and can't do without it, sooo... I use other editors to make up for its few shortcomings.



Sorry. What You See Is What You Get. Visual editors. You drag and you drop and write like in Word and they generate the code in the background. Most often they generate A LOT of it.



Different strokes for different folks. I guess. Most people around here probably use text editors but DW sure has its following too.


It's crap. Maybe even more scary than FP.



That's fine. But don't base your decision on what I think. Hopefully others will chime in too.

Even if no one else does chime in I still thank you for your opinion.

Haha BTW I didnt even know textpad highlighted the HTML, I just used it because it came up on download.com first.

I use Notepad++ (you can find it online... somewhere). It's a general text editor, except it's color coded depending on what language you're programming.
